My current work is very direct – I draw with as much immediacy as I can. The space between seeing and drawing (which can be a matter of moments) has a tension– it’s both restrained and free at the same time. There is an element of observation, and a focus that comes from the decisions around making just a few marks. But that sometimes frees up, becoming more about feeling or the feel of things.
